Symptoms of Low Self EsteemThose suffering low self-esteem have difficulty in living their lives in a contented and fulfilling way. Whereas those that have a high self esteem go through life contented and exude confidence in their everyday surroundings. By seeking out help and learning all there is to improving low self esteem an individual can then become contented and confident with life. So what are the symptoms of low self esteem? While it is common that those who are overweight suffer from low self esteem the opposite is true that having low self esteem can contribute to putting on weight. Being overweight and not completely contented with life is one major symptom as is lack of confidence in meeting daily challenges, poor self-worth, withdrawing from society and not enjoying life to the fullest. All of these symptoms can easily be addressed. Such as undertaking a diet and exercise program to lose weight and to increase fitness levels. To address confidence issues one might try public speaking, joining a choir or group where you can interact in a safe and secure environment. You will find as you meet each challenge and overcome the symptoms that have presented themselves to you, that you will have an increase in self confidence and therefore continuing increases in your self esteem. Its all a matter of breaking the cycle taking small steps and not expecting too much in a short period of time. In children and teenagers symptoms of low self esteem might be withdrawing from activities they once enjoyed, putting themselves down when it is not necessary or basically becoming a sad withdrawn person. These symptoms are a little harder to address as children often hide their true feelings and prefer to busy themselves in their rooms or cubby houses. We are not born with self esteem as this is something we develop as we travel through life. So it is important to identify in a young persons or adult persons life exactly when did the feelings of low self esteem occur.
It maybe a weight issue or a comment may have been made and they have taken it too sensitively. By communicating with the child and having a frank and open discussion most times the source can be identified. A parents encouraging words and companionship can go along way in helping children through low self esteem issues.
